Fundamentals of Programming

COSC 1315

Introduction to the fundamentals of computer programming, using a current programming language. Emphasis is on the fundamentals of structured design, development, testing, implementation, and documentation. Includes coverage of language syntax, data and file structures, input/output devices, and disks/files. The design of classes and objects, assignments, decisions and iterations are emphasized using an object-oriented language.

Industrial Safety and National Electrical Safety Code

ELMT 1371

This course will provide students with a strong overall understanding of safety practices and requirements as they relate to general workplace and industrial settings, specifically power generation, transmission, and distribution. An introductory study of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) is also covered. Emphasis is placed on the safety aspect of wiring design, protection, methods and materials and equipment for general use.

Microprocessor

CETT 1445

Introduction to microprocessor software and hardware; architecture, timing sequence, operation, and programming. Discussion of appropriate software diagnostic language and tools.

Solar Photovoltaics Systems

ELMT 2474

This course explores the design and installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and their applications both off-grid and on-grid. Both centralized solar power plants and distributed topologies will be considered.

Solar Thermal Systems

ELMT 2275

This course will train interested participants on the various and most common solar thermal system installations. The course will review the different components and the respective functions of a solar thermal system. The course also covers the financial aspects of installing different solar thermal systems such as cost, energy savings, and return of investments. The course will involve the inspection and installation of various types of solar thermal systems. Individual components are discussed and multiple labs will be performed. Emphasis will be placed on hands-on training.

Energy Efficient Structures and Assessments

ELMT 2372

A study of materials and devices that are used to make buildings more efficient. The course will review different types of materials as well as how to do assessments of existing structures. Topics such as windows, doors, insulation, and other alternative energy efficient construction materials are reviewed. Students will learn how to distinguish between materials in terms of energy efficiency. Students will also learn how to do assessments, visual inspections as well as return on investment analysis. The students will also be exposed to the business side of renewable energy. Emphasis will be placed on hands-on training.

Wind Power Delivery System

WIND 2359

In-depth study of the components of the input and output electrical power delivery systems for wind generation. This course will include blades, rotors, generators, controllers, brakes, wind vanes, gear drives and anemometers. This course will also include a geothermal power discussion to provide information on bottom hole temperatures, water injection, binary cycles, heat exchanges and energy converters.

Study of the techniques used in troubleshooting various types of industrial equipment to include mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and their control devices. Emphasis will be placed on the use of schematics and diagrams in conjunction with proper troubleshooting procedures.
